Wizkid Makes a Powerful Return to the Dance Floor on “Kese”
The Nigerian superstar continues the run-up to his forthcoming album ‘Morayo’ with this brilliant P2J-produced record.

Wizkid has been hitting a productive run of late. After releasing the Brent Faiyaz-featured masterpiece that is “Piece of My Heart,” the Nigerian superstar returns with “Kese (Dance),” produced by P2J, who’s been Wizkid’s favored producer since the scene-defining Made in Lagos.
On “Kese (Dance),” that familiarity within the engine room translates into an instantly enjoyable record. Since the turn of the 2020s, Wizkid has increasingly favored a more relaxed approach to his music, bending the intricacies of R&B and Caribbean influences into his distinct Afropop. That mellow style was the centerpiece of MIL and was subtly reiterated on More Love, Less Ego, the follow-up project.
However for some older fans of Wiz, they’ve clamored for his sensational takes on the upbeat, on the Wizkid whose bright pop songs influenced the flamboyance of an entire generation. That is the Wizkid one hears on “Kese (Dance),” a record whose intent is already obvious on the title.
All in the space of about three minutes, Wizkid evokes the past as brilliantly as the present and near future, with his much-anticipated Morayo album in view. Calling the listener to dance, the drums-infused record works as a sort of celebration in prelude to the project. And with the interesting sonic choices he’s been flexing on these singles, it’s brilliant how he’s stoking the hype around the album with as much music as possible.
