Spotify has shared its Wrapped data for the year. As expected, it’s an insightful evidence of the commercial viability of African music, with the Sub-Saharan region announced as the fastest-growing in the world.

With a 114 percent growth in music consumption, Afrobeats has been the spur behind this blazing climb, with top artists such as Burna Boy and Ayra Starr doing great numbers all year.

The listens have come in from all over the world, highlighting just how much African music has become a global phenomenon. Few artists embody this global superstardom like Asake, who was the most streamed artist in Sub-Saharan Africa this year. He’s joined in the top five by Drake, Burna Boy, Seyi Vibez and Chris Brown. Other artists on the list are Rema, Future, Davido, Wizkidand BNXN, in descending order.

Quite unsurprisingly, the DeeYasso-produced “Egwu” from Chikeand Mohbad is the most streamed record in the region this year. Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” and Ayo Maff’s “Dealer” complete the top three records, followed by ODUMODUBLVCKand Black Sherif’s “WOTOWOTO SEASONING” and “Higher,” the solo Burna Boy single this year.

The most streamed projects are from the big names, but it is led by none other than Young Jonn’s hit-laden Jiggy Forever. Others in the Top 10 list include Ayra Starr’sThe Year I Turned 21, Asake’s Lungu Boy and Work of Art, and Rema’s HEIS.
