Returning to Johannesburg for the third time next week, the Turbine Art Fair is a platform for over 40 galleries, curators and art organizations to promote accessible and affordable art by emerging and established contemporary artists in South Africa. This year, Guns & Rain-- an online home to contemporary fine art from southern Africa-- will be presenting work from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa.

The platform's founder, Julie Taylor, told us over e-mail that she wants to give people the opportunity to see work by Guns & Rain artists in the flesh. "Artists from the wider southern African region need greater exposure in South Africa," she said, "and South Africans need to learn more about their neighboring countries, their histories and their visual art"

In the following pages, Taylor previews a selection of work by Guns & Rain artists that will be on display at the fair.

Turbine Art Fair runs Friday, July 17, through Sunday, July 19, at the Turbine Hall in Newtown, Johannesburg.
