Nakhane Touré 'Fog'

Nakhane Touré recently graced Rolling Stone SA's symbolic mantle, featured in a cover-story that suggests the Joburg songwriter's haunted ballads may just land overseas. Crooning in a contemplative form akin to the UK's Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons), Touré's rendition of 80s goth anthem "Just Like Heaven" (below) points to something of a thematic link between this South African songwriter's bare-boned melancholia and The Cure's tradition of emotional pop. SA filmmaker Mark Middlewick directed Touré's inaugural video for tortured standout "Fog" (off album debut Brave Confusion). The monochromatic portrait is the dreamlike embodiment of Touré's haunted vocals. Watch the surrealist video for "Fog" below.
