‘Our Land, Our Freedom’ (Kenya)

In Kenya, this powerful documentary traces Wanjugu Kimathi's relentless journey to recover her father's remains — a quest that leads her deep into the buried injustices of British colonial rule. Alongside her mother, Wanjugu’s pursuit evolves from a personal mission into an exposé of colonial atrocities, including concentration camps and widespread land seizures that left countless Kenyans dispossessed. Their unwavering efforts ignite a broader call for justice, transforming Wanjugu into a prominent voice advocating for land reclamation and restitution for the communities impacted by these historical wrongs.

Where to Watch: Currently in Kenyan theaters.

‘Elders’ Classroom’ (Uganda)

Elders’ Classroom follows the humorous journey of Mzee Balikuddembe, a warm-hearted elder who opens his home to Sekimpi, the son of his late best friend. Determined to honor his father’s legacy, Sekimpi transforms Mzee’s house into an unconventional school for the elderly and underprivileged. Yet, beneath Sekimpi’s good intentions lies a comedic twist — haunted by past gambling debts, he unwittingly stirs up chaos, setting the stage for unpredictable and hilarious misadventures.

‘Black & Blue’ (Kenya)

Showmax introduces Black & Blue, a new police mockumentary series that takes a humorous dive into the Kenyan police’s efforts to revamp their image. In a bold, unconventional move, a civilian is appointed as Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at an experimental precinct. This outsider’s perspective disrupts the typical routines, shedding light on the quirks, blunders and unique challenges within the force. Starring Kalasha award winner Gitura Kamau (Lusala) and directed by Abdi Shuria and King “Mushking” Muriuki, Black & Blue brings a fresh twist to Kenyan television, blending comedy with social commentary.

‘Sketchy AF!’ (Kenya)

Directed by Vincent Mbaya, Sketchy AF! delivers a fresh comedy centered on a cash-strapped entrepreneur and a debt-ridden theater director who hatch a dubious plan: faking an engagement and dowry ceremony to secure quick money. Featuring Nyokabi Macharia (Country Queen) and Bruce Makau (Kina), this film is the first from Sketchy Africans, a new comedy brand aiming to bring relatable African humor and vibrant storytelling to the big screen.
