Watch the Trailer for 'RAFIKI'—The First Kenyan Feature Film Set To Premiere at Cannes

The trailer for Wanuri Kahiu's feature film, RAFIKI, is here, Shadow and Act reports.

It was announced last week that RAFIKI (Friend) will be the first feature film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, which begins May 8.

The film is inspired by the 2007 Caine Prize Winning short story "Jambula Tree" by Ugandan writer Monica Arac Nyeko and asks whether it's safer being invisible or if it's better to defy conservative rules, while discovering one's identity and destiny through love.

Meet the main characters, Kena (Samantha Mugatsia) and Ziki (Sheila Munyiva), two young women who fall in love despite the odds stacked against them, in the trailer below.
