Young Fathers Are Headed To Johannesburg & Cape Town This Month
In January we broke the news that Young Fathers would be bringing their apocalyptic pop to South Africa for a two-city tour hosted by SA beats platform Weheartbeat and Cape Town’s Assembly Radio, in partnership with the British Council Connect ZA and Okayafrica. The Mercury Prize-winning Scottish / Liberian / Nigerian trio are indeed coming at the end of the month, and they'll be joined by some of our favorite South African artists. First, on 27 February they'll hit King Kong in Johannesburg with Card On Spokes, Okmalumkoolkat, BIG FKN GUN, 'Digital Maskandi' mastermind Mashayabhuqe KaMamba, A Million Things, Just Themba, and Symatics. Next, on 28 February they'll head to the Assembly in Cape Town with Card On Spokes, Zaki Ibrahim ft. Mr Sakitumi, Fever Trails, Mashayabhuqe KaMamba, JakobSnake, Desert_head (aka Luc Vermeer from Christian Tiger School) and Symatics. The Johannesburg show will stream live right here on Okayafrica, and the Cape Town show will stream live on Assembly Radio (more details on both to come).
There's also a pair of meet & greets with Young Fathers set to take place in Johannesburg (26 February at Live SA) and Cape Town (2 March at Yours Truly). Edinburgh DIY R&B/alt-rap artist (and Young Fathers affiliate) LAW will also be joining the trio in South Africa. She'll be doing a set of her own at the Red Bull Corner to Corner on Thursday, 26 February, in Johannesburg. She'll also be joining SA artists in studio with Young Fathers during their tour.
