‘Chuz Maz’khethela’ - South Africa
Chuz Maz’khethela is a hilarious reality television show in the vein of shows such as Date My Family and anything that Moja Love does. In this episode, an elderly citizen is looking for love, and tries to convince a much younger lady to marry and take care of him. The old head’s demands are a bit intense; he wants someone who doesn’t have more than a single child, and someone who shall take care of him since he’s not working. The revelations throughout the entire interaction shall leave you in stitches.

‘The Joy - A Record In A Day’ - South Africa
This film follows the journey during the recording of The Joy’s latest, self-titled album which happened in December 2023. “We’re here making our first album, recording it live in a day,” says one of the members, who goes on to express just how much they appreciate the city of London, where the music came to life. With the moves that they have been making over the past few years specifically, The Joy look set to have a fruitful career in the music industry.

‘Law, Love and Betrayal’ - South Africa
Law, Love and Betrayal is Showmax’s original legal drama that began streaming this month. It features seasoned actors like Nimrod Nkosi, who some might recall from his Jam Alley days, Pearl Modiadie and Dineo Rasedile in her first lead role. Says Modiadie: “It will captivate those passionate about law and breathtaking cinematography, as well as those drawn to complex love stories and strong ambitious women in the corporate world. ‘Born Into Fame’ - South Africa
Born Into Fame is a reality television show that features children of well-known entertainment figures. The viewer gets a pristine view of all the things that make them tick, and gets to see what it’s like to have grown up with a famous parent. It’s an unserious, lighthearted watch that will bring less gloom to our screens. And all of the children are very headstrong and very sure of themselves, which can make for a few moments of quality trash television consumption.

‘Greytown Girl’ - South Africa
The Dariel Roodt-directed Greytown Girl made headlines two years ago when it secured an international distribution deal even before it went into production. Roodt’s other work includes the Academy Award-nominated Yesterday, as well as Sarafina. The film tells the true story of a small-town South African girl, Meena, who was abandoned as a baby with physical limitations. She goes on to build her life with tremendous bravery. Starring in the film are the likes of Sanam Sitaram, Jack Devnarain, Emmanuel Castis and Linda Sokhulu.
