Watch the Animated Video For Olamide's New Single 'Poverty Die'

Olamide uses prayer to fight off extreme poverty on his latest tune.

Olamide tackles poverty in his own unique way in his new song and video "Poverty Die."

The Nigerian artist is in full "prayer warrior" mode on the catchy song as he sends holy fire to kill poverty and prays intensely for its demise. "Poverty na my ex oh," sings Olamide atop production reminiscent of typical Nigerian praise and worship songs.

The seemingly tongue-and-cheek music video, sees an animated Olamide, dressed in an all-white tunic, fighting off a dubious looking cloud of poverty with a cross in hand. It's a recognizable image to anyone familiar with Nigerian society's exceedingly religious order.

Olamide's "Poverty Die" is a reflection of how many Nigerians address pressing social matters: through prayer and the casting away of "evil." Prayers aside though, let's hope that other, more immediate, forms of action are taken against poverty in Nigeria as well—considering the country recently became the extreme poverty capital of the world. This alarming fact, makes Olamide's single all the more timely.
