Listen to uSanele's new project 'uMvelase.'
South African hip-hop artist uSanele's recently released project is titled uMvelase. "This project," says the artist, "is in honor of my father and family, abakwa Mthembu; all my siblings, extended family and my roots in the heart of KZN, kwaNongoma. It is a calling—if you will—a completion of my journey and all things coming full circle."
He adds that the project is "a message to self (from higher self or spirit) to return home—'Buyela ekhaya,'as the last track title suggests, or rather to remember who we are and where we come from."
The seven-track release features likeminded rappers and artists such as AyemaProbllem (from Stiff Pap),ASAP Shembe, Windows 2000, and Durban hip-hop legend Manelisi. The latter opens the project with a spoken-word piece fittingly titled "Inkondlo."
Production on the project is handled by a different producer for every song. Contributions behind the boards include Tsukudu, Rendition, August, Hipnaughtic Sean, Gee-Funk and MV. The sound on the project is varied as one would expect, but it's tied together by the leanings towards trap and modern hip-hop production.
uMvelase is a follow-up to Gangular, an EP the Boyz n Bucks and Spova Gang member released in January of 2019.
