Tyla Wraps Up 2024 with Sabrina Carpenter Duet on Netflix
The South African singer is also performing in her home country for the first time since reaching global stardom.
Tyla is ringing in this holiday season in some serious style. The South African singer is one of the featured guests on A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, a holiday variety music special headlined by American pop star Sabrina Carpenter.
Alongside singers like Chappell Roan and Kalis Uchis, Tyla is one of a few guests who will be dueting with Carpenter on the Netflix exclusive special, which will start streaming on Friday, Dec. 6. Tyla’s appearance continues her incredibly memorable year, which has seen her win many awards and climb the totem of global pop music as a veritable star.
The holidays will be doubly special for Tyla, as she’s set to perform in her home country for the first time since her Grammy-winning hit “Water” shot into international fame. The first of two shows will be happening later today at the Grand Arena in Cape Town, while the second live show takes place on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria.
The singer will be supported across both dates by several South African artists, including “private school ‘piano auteur” and Tyla collaborator Kelvin Momo, velvet-voiced hitmaker Daliwonga, R&B singer Filah Lah Lah, amapiano artist Optimist, and electro-amapiano musician Ez Maestro.
On the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 4, Tyla performed an intimate set in collaboration with Coke Studio. At the show, which took place in Sandton, Johannesburg, the singer wowed fans with a run of some songs from her catalog and premiered a new single, “Tears,” produced in collaboration with Coke Studios.
“It feels incredible to perform for the people who have supported me from the very beginning,” she said at the show. There’s no doubt Tyla fans in South Africa will be treated to a great live show on either of the arena dates.
This comes in a year that has seen Tyla's "Water" become her first song to reach Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 10, with songs off her debut album making onto Apple Daily Top 100 charts across 140 countries. On Apple's end of year charts, "Water" comes in at number 45 on the Global Songs chart, and is included in the Top 15 Pop Songs of the Year.
