This Is The Most Badass Performance We've Seen This Year
South African singer Manthe Ribane and producer Okzharp deliver the flyest performance we've seen in 2017.
South African singer, Manthe Ribane, is a performance artist as much as she is a musical one.
She's given us memorable showcases of her talents in music videos like "Dear Ribane," which we regarded as "the future of electronic performance art videos," and she gives us that same feeling in a new set for Boiler Room with UK-based Hyperdub producer and frequent collaborator Okzharp.
In this Ramone Anderson-directed, the producer and artist duo trade lines and ad-libs back and forth as they run through tracks from their latest EP Tell Your Vision—the follow-up to 2015's Dumela 113—in a hazy, black and white space. To sum it up, the performance is 15 minutes of spellbinding energy.
With Ribane's daring stage presence (and overall flyness) coupled with Okzharp's pounding production, the set is easily one of the most captivating live performance we've seen so far this year.
