Tems and Asake are Cinematic Figures in the Visuals for “Get it Right”
The dazzling new music video sees the Nigerian singer-songwriter expand the sonic universe of Born in the Wild.
Tems has been on a run lately.
Just two weeks after putting out the visuals to “Turn Me Up,” the Nigerian singer-songwriter has shared another video from Born in the Wild. This time it’s “Get it Right,” the mellow duet she created with fellow Nigerian superstar Asake.
“Get it Right” is one of the fan favorites from Tems’ Grammy-nominated album, and this expansion of its narrative into visual form is coming at the right time, especially with the December festivities around the corner. The Laura Marciano visuals for the song embrace a minimalist direction, casting Tems and Asake in scenes that are purposefully sparse. Getting close to the characters, there’s a cinematic tension weaned from Tems’ alluring gaze and the charisma of her co-star, Mr. Money. With flamboyant cuts of Tems’ blazing white hair, complete with a gorgeous fur coat among other stellar outfits, it’s also a showcase of top-cutting fashion. Staying true to his brand, Asake dons a money-printed sweater.
With this new offering, the growing visual universe of Born in the Wild has made it one of the more urgent follow-ups we’ve seen from an artist after the release of their debut album. It relays an understanding of the staying power of visuals and film, and there’s no doubt we’ll have a stronger impression of this bop now.
