'Mean Dub': A Dub Remix EP From Sinkane & Peaking Lights
Psychedelic pop duo Peaking Lights remix four tracks from Sinkane's standout 'Mean Love' LP into blissful dub reworkings.
Sinkane's Mean Love, one of our choices for last year's top albums, saw the Sudanese-rooted, Brooklyn-based musician exploring his American influences through ten tracks of polyrhythmic grooves and smooth melodies. For the forthcoming Mean Dub EP, four of those album songs are taken to a reverbed-out and reggae-tinted world by Aaron Coyes of the psychedelic pop duo Peaking Lights.
“Peaking Lights shed new light to these songs," explains Sinkane (aka Ahmed Gallab) to Hunger TV. "They’re so good that we’ve started to play some of these versions live. It’s a real pleasure to work and be friends with such talented, loving humans.” EP highlights include the boosted percussion on "How We Be" and the bass-heavy rework of "Hold Tight."
Stream Sinkane and Peaking Lights' Mean Dub EP below, the 12" will be out August 21 on City Slang. Catch Sinkane live in London at the David Byrne-curated Meltdown on August 17.
