Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 Announce US Tour Dates
On the back of his album, ‘Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head),’ the Afrobeat icon's massive tour comes with a new Zamrock remix featuring Sampha the Great.
Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 have announced dates for their forthcoming U.S. tour.
On the back of his album, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), Kuti and his band’s 25-date tour will bring their energetic live show across the United States, showcasing how the sonic elements of jazz and improvisation gave birth to the legendary Afrobeat genre.
Beginning in April with four nights at New York City’s iconic Blue Note Jazz Club, Kuti and Egypt 80 will go on to play other prestigious stages, including Coachella (April 11 and 18) and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Other venues for the tour include the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and the Aladdin Theatre in Portland.
In tandem with the tour, Kuti has also announced a Zamrock remix of “Emi Aluta,” his collaboration with the Zambian rapper and songwriter, Sampha The Great. Tapping into the rich sound of her country’s prestigious music movement, a fresh touch is given to one of the standouts of the Heavier Yet album. The remix will be available on vinyl on February 14 via the independent Milan label, Record Kicks.
