This Video of Serge Ibaka Getting His Congolese Food Fix Will Make Your Day
The Toronto Raptors power forward opens up his home to eat amazing Congolese food—and we want in.
Serge Ibaka goes above and beyond to eat Congolese food in Toronto, and we completely understand why. Getting a meal with food from your home country that's cooked with love is all it takes to transport you back—even if it's just for a moment.
"Her restaurant is so far, but when I need this food, I'm going to do whatever it takes," he says in a new video from Vice Sports.
The clip follows Yvette, the owner of Ma Yvé Grill—the only authentic Congolese restaurant near Toronto, as she cooks and delivers a feast to Ibaka's home.
"He called me and he wanted to order food and we did. Since then he's been our very good client," Yvette says in the video. "I was happy that he wanted to eat food from his country."
Ibaka also shares how Bismack Biyombo, Orlando Magic center who's also from the DRC, put him on to her restaurant, so he can eat his fill of his favorite dish, fumbwa. "I could eat this everyday," he says.
"The season's almost over," he continues. "Getting ready for the playoffs, I eat the same thing again and again for my diet. But sometimes, it's just good to change—to go back home a little bit, mentally."
