As the 2019 awards season continues, the winners of the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards were given their Actor statues Sunday. You already know who we're stanning—all things Black Panther and Rami Malek.
Malek took home the award for "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role" for his moment as Freddie Mercury inBohemian Rhapsody.
Black Panther received two SAG Awards—"Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture" as well as the coveted "Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture."
The cast with their glowing skin and proud presence accepted the award with Chadwick Boseman's speech that spoke loud and clear—that the success of Black Panther will not be limited to this moment.
"When I think of going to work everyday, and the passion and the intelligence, the resolve, the discipline that everybody showed, I also think of two questions that we all have received that during the course of multiple publicity runs. And one is, 'Did we know that this movie was going to receive this kind of response?' Meaning, 'Was it going to to make a billion dollars? Was it still going to be around during this awards season?' And the second question is, 'Has it changed the industry? Has it actually changed the way this industry works? How it sees us?' And my answer to that is—to be young, gifted and black," he says.
