More Ramadan Series to Stream This Month
A mixed bag of new releases and overlooked gems from Egypt, often referred to as the Hollywood of North Africa.
Three weeks into Ramadan, there are still so many Egyptian musalsalat (TV series) we haven’t had time to watch yet! And not just that, new shows have been released since our last Ramadan streaming guide, with people tuning in from all over the (Arab) world via Shahid, Southwest Asia and North Africa's version of Netflix, or WATCHIT, its Egyptian counterpart.
All over the region, Muslim families gather on their sofas after breaking fast every night, catching up with the daily episode of their favorite history or family drama, action series, social justice story, and, of course, comedy.
Here’s a selection of the shows they’re watching this Ramadan season (you can either gather with your friends and family for an episode each night, or indulge in a good binge watch, there’s more than enough on offer):
'Masar Egbari' ('Mandatory Path')
One of the most successful shows this year is Masar Egbari, starring actors Essam Omar and Ahmed Dash as the brothers Hassan and Hussein. Having just learned that they’re siblings, they discover a secret that forces them to set their differences aside. Directed by Nadine Khan and written by renowned screenwriter Baher Dowidar, this 15-episode social drama is available on Shahid and WATCH IT.
