Mr Eazi Reveals Artists Recruited Onto emPawa Africa Program
The artist has revealed the 30 artists who'll be joining his talent incubator.
Mr Eazihas just released the list of 30 artists who will be joining his emPawa Africa initiative, a talent incubator for rising African artists on the continent and those in the diaspora.
After putting out a call for submissions last year, Mr Eazi and his team have finally selected the artists who will participate in the second phase of the talent incubator. Each of the chosen 30 artists is set to receive funds to film their music video, mentorship and guidance from the likes of DJ Neptune, E Kelly, Harmonize, Shekinah, DJ Maphorisa, Diplo (among several others) and naturally, Mr Eazi himself.
In an interview with OkayAfrica, Mr Eazi explained why he had started emPawa saying, "I've always wanted to do something similar that is basically incubator-style for music, like I did when I was in Phone Trader." He added that, "I've always had the idea of trying that for music so I decided to just put it together to mix the charity with the incubator-style."
Artists including JoeBoy, Lady Donli and Karun are just some of the artists emPawa has helped launched in the bid to produce a new wave of African music stars.
In a press statement released by the artist and his team, they described the process that the selected artists will go through writing:
"The 10 artists who display the most promise will be flown to a three-week masterclass in Ghana this June, where they will receive business, songwriting, marketing and production training while working in a state-of-the-art recording studio. Of these, two artists will receive additional funding to cover management, marketing and legal fees throughout 2020, as well as to create additional music and videos."
