M.anifest’s Music Video for ‘Cupid’s Crooked Bow’ is a Highly Stylized Tale of Lover’s Remorse

M.anifest spared little time delivering titillating visuals for single “Cupid’s Crooked Bow” fresh off his fourth studio album Nowhere Cool, which premiered at the Jaguar Showroom last week.
The fourteen-track memento is influenced by Ghanaian compatriot and distinguished author and playwright Ama Ata Aidoo’s eponymous short story.
"I felt Nowhere Cool will be an appropriate way to tell different stories of life, because sometimes that is how it feels," M.anifest says.
The cinematically rich Guto Bussab and Alfonzo Franke-directed video—shot in Accra by Cape Town based production house Muti Films— sees the ‘god MC’ with a cowrie shell-bedecked beard, team up with one of his “favorite contemporary voices” on the continent, South African singer-poet-activist Nomsa Mazwai “Nomisupasta.”
Together, they tell the tale of lover’s remorse, basically that bittersweet moment when you realize your S.O. would be better as an ex or considering the timing of the video, the inevitable end to your summer fling.
“The song was inspired by having been loved by a woman or two who always knew the difficulties of dating an artist, never wanted to make that choice, yet we found ourselves in a spin of intoxicating love that always threatened to end,” M.anifest explains.
