Phyno, Falz and Phenom Link Up for Socially-Charged Single 'Get the Info'

Phyno's new track is an indictment on the state of Nigerian society.

Nigerian rapper Phynoenlists fellow Nigerian MCs Falzand Phenom for his latest single "Get the Info," a socially-charged track that sees the artist addressing some of the most pressing issues facing their home country.

The track opens with words about government corruption, before the rappers deliver passionate verses atop the laid-back hip hop production from Major Banggz.

Phyno opens the song, rapping in his dexterous mix of Igbo and English and is later joined by Phenom on the second verse. Flaz, known for his socially-minded lyrics, delivers the song's third verse, which is another indictment on greedy politicians. In the song, the rappers address everything from elections, to poverty, to tribalism and religion. They urge listeners to stay informed and "get the Info" throughout.

The stripped-back music video features the artists and dancers performing in dark settings interspersed with striking black-and-white footage featuring everyday Nigerians, state security forces, political leaders and more.

The track is Phyno's first of the year. Last year the artist dropped his latest album Deal With It, which featured several collaborations, including "Vibe" featuring Flavour.

OkayAfrica spoke to both Phyno and Falz for our end of the decade retrospective on the rise of afrobeats. Phyno spoke about the future of the Nigerian music scene, "what everybody is hearing now is just the tip of the iceberg," said the artist. Later adding: "Trust me though, the wave is coming, afrobeats, Nigeria, Africa, this is culture to us. Music is what we do—everybody does music like it's nothing."
