Jumping Back Slash Remixes Fantasma's 'Eye of the Sun'

UK/Cape Town producer Jumping Back Slash remixes Fantasma's "Eye of the Sun".

Fresh off the new release of their brilliant debut EP Eye of the Sun, South Africa's Fantasma share an energetic remix of the title track by UK/Cape Town producer Jumping Back Slash. Marking yet another ace collaboration with township tech renaissance man Spoek Mathambo, Jumping Back Slash's remix hones in on a fast-paced flurry of claps and hi-hats combined with the vuvuzela-esque drone of horns and Spoek's scrambled vocals. JBS builds the track to a satisfying climax before masterfully stripping it all down to Spoek's voice, briefly suspending time, then returning to the main theme in celebratory fashion.

Jumping Back Slash wrote us about his involvement in the project, "Spoek asked me if I wanted to come back to SA to help produce the EP and the Fantasma LP which comes out next year. The project took us to Red Bull Studios in Cape Town for the EP, Cape St. Francis in the Eastern Cape and finally Jozi to finish the LP. The remix came as a cheeky bonus. I wanted to continue the freneticism of the original, in a slightly different way."

Once dubbed "the best South African producer you have never heard of," JBS continues to impress and excite our ears with his amazing production skills, which have evolved gracefully over time. From his earlier remixes and reworks of nostalgic tunes such as Brandy and Monica‘s ’98 R&B hit “Boy Is Mine”  (check out his highly inventive "Boy" EP), to his most recent contribution on Fantasma's debut, it won't be long until he breaks into the wider notoriety of his peers Spoek Mathambo and fellow Fantasma member DJ Spoko. Check out the remix below and be sure to listen to Fantasma's Eye of the Sun EP in full via Soundway Records.
