Johnny Drille and Don Jazzy Are the Perfect Pairing on ‘Hard Guy Confessions’
The talented Nigerian duo, Johnny Drille and Don Jazzy, extend their fine partnership into new EP, ‘Hard Guy Confessions.’
Johnny Drille and Don Jazzy enjoy making music together.
That much is clear from the feel-good records they’ve worked on, which began with the nationwide hit “How Are You (My Friend)” and extended onto “Believe Me” and “Spending.” Beyond depicting the wholesome traits of love and friendship, what these songs share is their simplicity, which sparkles with accessible melodies and lived-in songwriting. On Hard Guy Confessions, the Mavin Records duo stretch their fine partnership into a seven-track EP. The aforementioned singles are all included with four new songs making the cut. As the title suggests, the EP explores the terrain of affection, going from the sour-toned to the romantic with assured ease. The production is handled by both Johnny Drille and Don Jazzy.
Ever since his occasional verses as the Mo Hits honcho, Don Jazzy’s voice has been one of the sweeter spots of Nigerian pop. Finding a musical kin in Johnny Drille has been great for his singing. Hard Guy Confessions has a lot of that joy — of finding oneself and seeking love again, possibly in the aftermath of tough personal experiences. It’s a wholesome reach towards softness, never mind the “hard guy” in its title.
