Joeboy Explores the Ups and Downs of Infatuation in New 2-Pack Release
"Adenuga” and “Concerning” are strong showcases of Joeboy’s ability to meld emotive themes and hit-making song craft.
For about half-a-decade Joeboy has been one of the most prolific pop stars in Nigerian music.
Months into a new phase of his career, which involves a new label deal and the kickstart of his Young Legend imprint, the singer continues to move with the same momentum.
For his second release of the year, Joeboy has dropped a two-single pack, each song exploring the upsides and downsides of infatuation. It’s a theme the singer has shown himself to be well-versed in over the years, from the giddy swing of “Baby” to the emotional angst of “Contour.” This time around, he adds a healthy dose of bravado to his loverboy persona.
On “Adenuga,” the first song on the pack, Joeboy offers his heart and his deep pockets to a love interest, the latter offering being a reference to telecom magnate, Mike Adenuga. “I’ll give you the world, baby,” he sings on the bridge, briefly reaching for a higher note to convey his instant devotion. The second verse is sung by guest, Qing Madi, who meets Joeboy’s admiration with reciprocity. “I’ll give you peace of mind,” she declares over breezy, log drum-flecked production.
“Concerning” has a bouncy groove but Joeboy is more somber, this time his advances are met enthusiastically. “I’m wanting your love, no be headache,” he sings. In the midst of his imploring, he manages to craft a dance-ready tune, another showcase of Afrobeats mastery from a bankable artist.
