The list is broken down into five sections including pioneers, artists, leaders, icons and titans. It features a diverse group of Africans in each category, ranging from Zimbabwe's president Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa who took office following the ousting of Robert Mugabe, to Daily Show host Trevor Noah, whose profile is written by the indomitable Lupita Nyong'otoKenyan anti-female genital mutilationactivistNice Nailantei Leng'ete.
The list includes a number of notable big names from a range of backgrounds. Black Panther made a big splash on the list with both Chadwick Boseman and director Ryan Coogler making the cut. Other notable mentions include Rihanna, Cardi B, Aunty Maxine Waters, Sterling K. Brown and the creator of the #MeToo movement Tarana Burke.
