Idris Elba Says He Won't Be Playing James Bond
Time to put the dream to rest.
After months—more like years—of speculation, social media petitions and even presumed hints from Hollywood directors, Idris Elba has confirmed once and for all that he will not be the next James Bond.
When asked by a Good Morning Britain reporter on Tuesday, at the premiere of his directorial debut Yardie, the celebrated actor replied with a simple "no," and proceeded to keep it moving—instantly crushing fan's dreams with a single word.
Earlier this month, Elba left fans confused when he tweeted "my name's Elba, Idris Elba," in reference to the famous James Bond line, and then following his tweet with another that read "Don't Believe the Hype" shortly after.
You can watch as Elba quickly shuts down the rumors below.
Not everyone is taking the news well.
But not everyone was with the idea to being with. It seems that the Bond franchise needs Elba a lot more than he needs it. Why not have him star in his own original action production? After all, we'll never get enough of seeing black leads on our screens in unprecedented roles. Remember Black Panther?
