Netflix Unveils Trailer for ‘Happiness Is,’ the Third Entry in Popular South African Film Franchise
Renate Stuurman returns as Princess, the lead character who is now reevaluating her near-perfect life.
Close to nine years after Happiness is a Four-letter Word captured the eyes and hearts of South African audiences, the third installment in the franchise, Happiness Is, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 18. It’s the follow-up to Happiness Ever After, which was commissioned by and premiered on Netflix in 2021.
Renate Stuurman returns for the third time as the character Princess, who’s hitting 40 and wants to spend her birthday in solitude. Meanwhile, her bestie Tumi, played by Gail Mabalane (Blood & Water, Unseen), plans a huge birthday bash. A shocking revelation, along with Princess’ irritation at the bash, leads to several conflicts that throw her into a chaotic self-discovery, as she reevaluates her near-perfect life.
In the new trailer for Happiness Is, viewers get a glimpse into the arguments, romantic entanglements, shenanigans and drama to expect from the film.
Returning alongside Stuurman is Richard Lukunku, who plays Leo, her former romantic partner and now co-parent. The rest of the cast includes Siv Ngesi, Rosemary Zimu, Anton David Jeftha, Phaphama Nqabeni and Nigerian actor O.C. Ukeje.
Naledi Ya Naledi and Nthabiseng Mokoena serve as co-directors, replacing Thabang Moleya, the director of the two preceding Happiness films.
