Fireboy DML Casts Bloody Civilian as Vixen in Warm Visuals for ‘Everyday’

Love has been a recurrent theme in Fireboy DML’s music. The Nigerian singer has a confessional style that has thrilled audiences within Africa and beyond. On the Blaisebeatz production “Everyday,” he leaned into the hearty qualities that further enhanced the lover boy persona he reflected on his classic debut album, Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps.
The warm mood of “Everyday” is established by its buttery percussion and languid pace, characterizing a fun day spent with one’s lover. “Girl, I’m not here to dey confuse you / Girl, I’m only here to dey convince you,” he sings, drawing up a parallel that has its roots in Nigerian debate culture. Although fun-streaked, the writing in the record is as efficient as ever, working up sufficient melodies that thrill alongside the similarly minimalist beat whose rustic charm evokes all the feels.On the just-released visuals for “Everyday,” that charm is extended by the assured directorial hand of T.G Omori. The video starts off with a narrative premise, relating that the girlfriend of Fireboy DML’s character is bored, and they resolve to crash weddings to keep up the fun. Bright in its palette, playful in mood, polishing the visual’s effervescent appeal is the casting of Nigerian singer Bloody Civilian as the video vixen.
Celebrity video vixens are something of a tradition in popular music, a move that’s beneficial both ways as it works to promote the image of both musicians, in obvious and less-obvious ways. The implicit note on the “Everyday” visual is the fact that Bloody Civilian and Fireboy DML are both young artists who orbit similar spaces in Nigerian music. On set, their knowledge of each other is palpable, as they goof around and come across as the perfect pair.
With the wedding scenes doing the important work of supplying activity and color, what’s left to the featured artists are their acting chops. And they both deliver, Fireboy being characteristically energetic and, in line with the aforementioned storyline, Bloody Civilian is more reserved, dazzling in her Afro as scene after scene captures the tenderness of an assured love.
“Everyday” is Fireboy DML’s first release of the year and the success of the record and the rollout of its visuals shows he’s primed for a great one.
