Playlist: Uganda's 'A Pass' Selects The Best New East African Songs
Ugandan singer A Pass selects the best contemporary East African and Ugandan songs.
UGANDA—A Pass is an East African star.
The Kampala-born singer and songwriter has gained lots of traction across the region's music charts with steady drops of addictive singles like "Wuuyo," "Tuli Kubigere," "Gamululu," and the new "Sugar Girl."
His reggae-dancehall constructions have led him to collaborate with the likes of Konshens and take home trophies at Hipipo Awards and the Uganda Entertainment Awards.
We asked A Pass to tell us about the contemporary sounds that have been taking over the airwaves in Uganda and East Africa, to which he responded with this solid playlist featuring the likes of Ben Pol, Juliana Kanyomozi, Diamond Platnumz, Bebe Cool, Mr Eazi and, of course, himself.
"Music to me is a feeling and I honestly feel these songs," A Pass mentions about his song selections.
Check out A Pass' East African playlist below and grab his latest single, "Sugar Girl," which is out now.
Ben Pol "Phone" ft. Mr Eazi
A Pass: The melodies here are amazing and I love the beats. Tanzania's Ben Pol and Mr Eazi did a good job.
A Pass "Wuuyo"
AP: One of my best all time songs that's made Uganda love me, from a 1-year-old babies to the grandpapas or mamas. This is it."
Juliana Kanyomozi "Woman"
AP: This song talks about women and how they're fighters. I believe that women go through a lot and that they're warriors.
A Pass "Gamululu" feat. Konshens
AP: The song speaks more than I can, but the word is "amazing."
Bebe Cool "Byebyo"
AP: Funny thing about this song is that I was going to sing it but Bebe Cool liked it and bought it. It's still one of my best songs, it's a statement to show that we do this and we're good at it.
A Pass "Sugar Girl"
AP: It has the word "authority" written under it. This song's lyrically inclined and well put together.
AY "Zigo (Remix)"feat. Diamond Platnumz
AP: It's a dope song. I don't even know what they're saying but I love it.
A Pass "Memories" feat. Lilian Mbabazi
AP: Nice and easy is the word. The song is sweet and has good chemistry between myself and Lilian.
Sauti Sol "Sura Yako"
AP: It's a beautiful piece from Kenya's Sauti Sol.
A Pass "Tuli Kubigere"
AP: This song is about the hustle most of us go through in Kampala, but we know we shall make it one day, one day we ago make it.
