As we've told you, Pierce Freelon and Stephen Levitin (bka Apple Jucie Kid) are taking their Beat Making Lab curriculum (which they’ve been teaching at UNC-Chapel Hill) over to the Democratic Republic of Congo. This summer, 16 Congolese youth will have a chance to work directly with the two producers as part of Yole!Africa’s annual cultural arts festival SKIFF.
To help raise awareness of the project, ARTVSM (an arts activism group founded by Freelon and AJK), collected 13 of the best beats from their UNC class and put them into a free full length beat tape. Featuring everything from electronica to laid-back jazz-hop it’s a great album to throw on while you’re working. Stream and download it below.
