DJ Spoko Returns With The 'BACARDIXVILP' Album
Listen to Bacardi House pioneer DJ Spoko’s ‘BACARDIXVILP.’
DJ Spoko is always on the grind. Not even a life-threatening TB diagnosis kept him from making music. Confined to a hospital bed in Scotland for two months in 2015, the Bacardi House producer continued to release new sounds. Spoko’s Special Edition EP was recorded straight from Ward 5c of Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Now back in Pretoria, the producer says he’s working hard to recover the two months he spent in Scotland. He’s also got new material brewing.
This month the producer quietly returns with a follow-up to War God, one of Okayafrica’s Top Albums of 2015. BACARDIXVILP (a.k.a. the Bacardi 16 LP), which Spoko self-released on his Ghetto Boyz Music label, sees the electro pioneer continue to evolve his Bacardi house sound––a sub-genre he pioneered out of Atteridgeville, Pretoria.
Spoko calls the 16-track project “the new beginning of new material.” He says Bacardi House is growing in 2016. “The sound still reflects the sound of townships but with more power.”
