Watch Davido's Full Interview With The Breakfast Club
Davido tells DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God about his upbringing, signing with Sony, and how going back to Nigeria turned his career around.
Davido is currently in New York City where he's playing a show tonight.
The Nigerian superstar stopped by Power 105.1 FM for an interview in which he talks extensively about his youth, upbringing, first hit singles, and much more.
During the interview with DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God, Davido goes into his relationship with his millionaire father, who initially was not supportive of his son's career. He recalls that his father would send cops to shut down his shows and arrest his friends.
Davido then goes into his early singles like "Dami Duro" and his rise to fame. He talks about singing to Sony and being pushed to "do 'One Dance' type stuff" which led to his disappointment with his Son of Mercy EP, which received lukewarm reception.
He then goes into how going back home to Nigeria, recording with local producers, and coming out with "If" and "Fall," turned his career around overnight.
Davido, who recently made headlines for enrolling in Nigeria's mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), is playing Irving Plaza tonight in NYC. Some outlets are saying he broke NYSC rules by flying to the U.S. to perform.
