Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Has A Novel Coming in 2025

Fans are buzzing and marking their calendars as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie announces Dream Count, her first novel in over a decade.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the masterful author who brought us the immortal works of Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun, has officially announced her return to long-form fiction with Dream Count, set to release on March 4, 2025.

This will be her first novel since Americanah (2013), and fans are buzzing with excitement. After years of essays, short stories and nonfiction like Dear Ijeawele and Notes on Grief, Dream Count signals a long-awaited return to the storytelling form that made Adichie a household name.

Social media has lit up with fans unable to contain their excitement. X user @OsumareAyomi exclaimed, “YOU. HAVE. GOT. TO. BE. KIDDING. MEEEEE!!! I am about to FEEEEAST!!! MOTHER IS BACK!!!” Similarly, @_eyimi said, “EVERYONE BEHAVE!! Be on your best behavior because it’s been 11 years since we went on a lengthy beautiful journey. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie the QUEEN that you are.” Another user, @kha_dee_jah added, “I'm going to join a book club so that I can read Dream Count with like-minded individuals.”

On Adichie’s official Instagram announcement, users are equally enthusiastic. One user, @gailchukwu commented, “Took you long enough. Welcome back, your highness,” while another, @tomyfrvnklin wrote, “Oh we’re about to eat good good.”

Dream Count follows the lives of four Nigerian women — Chiamaka, Zikora, Omelogor, and Kadiatou — as they navigate love, heartbreak and self-discovery during the pandemic. Each character faces personal challenges, from career struggles to deep emotional regrets, with the story set between Nigeria and the U.S. Through these women’s journeys, Adichie explores themes of love and fulfillment in her signature style, offering fans a powerful reflection on modern life.

As Dream Count prepares for release, readers are eagerly awaiting what many expect to be one of 2025’s most anticipated books. English novelist Elizabeth Day best encapsulates our feverish delight in her response to Adichie’s announcement: “I can’t cope with how excited I am for this.”

We too, Ms Day. We too.
