Channel O's African Music Video Awards Round-Up
We recap the winners of the Channel O African Music Video Awards, held this past Friday in Soweto.
Most Gifted Dance Video winners Mafikizolo
Over the weekend music stars from around the continent converged at Soweto's Walter Sisulu Square for the tenth edition of the Channel O Video Music Awards– arguably the longest running and most prestigious awards night on the continent, which we previously chatted with SA nominees Toya Delazy and the Muffinz about. This year's ceremony was hosted by Nigeria's m.scs wielding rapper Naeto C and South African hip-hop royalty and AKA. For the first time in a minute, South Africa cleaned up the award haul– a position long held by Nigeria.
Live music high points of the night included performances from "special recognition award" recipients P Square, Dirty Paraffin spitter Okmalumkooklat, buzzing Nigerian Burna Boy, Soweto "kasi soul" crooners The Soil, SA hip-hop royalty Khuli Chana, and Kenyan Chocolate City rep Victoria Kimani amongst others. Below we run down who won what at this year's #CHOAMVA– all voted in by Channel O viewers. For a full gallery look at what went down head here.
