Burna Boy and Wizkid Are Working On New Music With Vybz Kartel

Jamaican dancehall and Nigerian afrobeats are like long-lost musical cousins.

They’re not identical twins, despite what mainstream radio, with their tendency to lump the two genres together into one all-encompassing “foreign and black” category, might have you believe. But they do, perhaps, share some DNA.

This might be why they work so well together on “Personally,” a recently leaked track from Burna Boy and self-proclaimed “Dancehall Hero,” Vybz Kartel.

Dancehall production and dashes of patois have been consistently present in Burna’s music. His afro-dancehall sound is given a major co-sign in the form of Vybz's guest verse.

There’s even more Vybz on the way. A recent tweet from Wizkid confirms that a collaboration from the two artists is soon to come.

It was only a matter of time before some of afrobeats and dancehall's biggest stars were formally introduced through a collaboration, my only complaint is that it didn't happen sooner.
