The music on Umuthi references vintage South African genres such as mbhaqanga, maskandi and isicathamiya among others. As fans have grown to expect from the duo, the project consists of sincere songs that speak about relatable issues. For instance, in the opening song, which is also the title track, the duo laments the lack of humanity in the country's economic and entertainment hub Joburg.

Blaq Diamond has grown from strength to strength ever since releasing their debut album in 2017. They have made a name for themselves by making songs that everyday people can relate to, and tell stories that depict the lived realities of black people in South Africa and other parts of southern Africa where their brand of pop resonates.
