'Black Panther' Reached a Billion Dollars at the Box Office Over the Weekend and Folks Can't Stop Celebrating
Wakanda forever.
After just 26 days in the theaters Black Panther has officially reached the billion dollar mark.
The film reached the milestone on Saturday, after it's opening week in China, where it's earned $66.5 million so far.
The monumental film is one of 33 films to make it into to "Billie Club," the last was 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Other billion-dollar films include The Titanic, Avatar, and The Dark Knight.
Folks everywhere are ecstatic—and we don't blame them, a movie with a black director, with an all-black cast, centered on a uniquely African narrative has defied the odds, completely shattering any misconceptions about the commercial potential of black films. It's a cultural force, and to top it all off, the film is just outright amazing.
This is certainly cause to celebrate, and people have been doing so all weekend long.
