'Black Panther' is the First Superhero Film to Earn a Golden Globes 'Best Drama' Nomination

Black Panthercontinues its reign.

The record-shattering film, has now become the first superhero movie nominated for "Best Drama" at the Golden Globes, as noted in Huffington Post. The 2019 nominations were announced this morning and Black Panther appears in a number of categories.

The film, which is the highest-grossing solo superhero film of all time, earned 2 other nominations for Best Original Song for Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "All the Stars" and Best Original Score for composer Ludwig Göransson's work on the film.

Director Ryan Coogler officially signed on to direct Black Panther 2 back in October.

In September, Disney launched a "for your consideration" campaign for the film, asking the Academy to consider the film in 16 categories for the 2019 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Coogler, and Best Actor for Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther's Golden Globes nominations bring it that much closer to becoming the first Marvel film to win an Oscar.

A number of majority black films also earned nominations including Spike Lee'sBlacKkKlansman and Barry Jenkin'sIf Beale Street Could Talk. Many online have been celebrating the nominations on Twitter, including members of the film's cast, like Lupita Nyong'o.
