Black Coffee to Host His Own Show on Beats 1
The South African DJ's show will premiere this Friday on Beats 1.
SOUTH AFRICA–The sky's the limit for South African house DJ, Black Coffee. Coffee just revealed that he will be hosting his own fortnightly radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1.
“The thing about South African music is that there are a lot of songs that have big potential to be internationally recognized,” the DJ told the South African news website IOL, “Like a lot of the music Kent is doing, I feel like if the same song was by Calvin Harris, it would blow up on the Billboard charts. Because it’s exposed to the right people. That’s what I want to try and do with this show. This is an opportunity to expose our music to the world.”
The show, which will be called Black Coffee on Beats 1, debuts this Friday at 8PM South African time. Coffee will be co-hosting the show with former pirate station DJ and record label owner Mario Cee, who Coffee says he's been friends with for 15 years.
Black Coffee on Beats 1, just like most Beats 1 shows, will be a combination of music and interviews with the biggest names in house music. The first guest this coming Friday will be South African DJ and producer Da Capo, who will also play a mix on the show.
Coffee also told IOL that this Friday on the show, he will be playing another remix of “Superman,” the song of his whose remix is featured on Drake’s More Life, as well as an unreleased and still-untitled song which features Nigeria’s Burna Boy. The collaboration was made possible by Swizz Beats, who the DJ had recommended for a Swizz Beats song.
