Audio: SIJI's New Afrohouse Single, 'Ijo'
Listen to Siji's new single, "Ijo"
November 03, 2010
Siji spent much of his childhood in Lagos and London before coming to the U.S. to further his musical ambitions. His own cultural heritage combined with the political and social movements of the age exposed young Siji to the insurgent, politicized music of afrobeat legends Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Tony Allen as well as the soulful grooves of Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Otis Redding. The production by New York-based Alix Alvarez on Siji's new single, "Ijo" highlights these influences over a traditional, thumping house beat.
