Andre Vibez and DanDizzy Release “LIKE,” the First Single From Mavin Records’ Upcoming Producer Compilation

Mavin Records is looking to shine a light on the people behind the boards with their upcoming producer compilation album, the first of its kind in the Afrobeats scene according to the label.
The forthcoming compilation, which will be solely orchestrated by Mavin in-house producers, is sharing its lead single today. On “LIKE,” Andre Vibez— the producer behind Rema’s “Calm Down” and many other hits — connects with the pop-leaning rapper DanDizzy over a colorful production. The theme is modern relationships and their manifestations, a subject DanDizzy has often explored in his own music.Pairing electronic flourishes with a strong Afropop bounce, the song’s beat takes up palpable space on the record. One hears a natural synergy between Andre Vibez and DanDizzy, which is partly owed to the rapper’s skills as a freestyler. “We didn’t overthink anything,” says Vibez to OkayAfrica. “It was more about capturing the vibe in the moment.”
Describing the potential of a beat as a feeling, “LIKE” met a litmus test for Vibez’ ears. “If the rhythm grabs me right away [I know it’s right],” he says. “Sometimes it’s also about how an artist reacts when they first hear it. If they connect with it instantly, that’s usually a good sign that we’ve got something.”
Mavin Records aims for the compilation to be a watershed moment for Afrobeats. Vibez thinks it’s a huge win for the culture but “it’s not just about the hits,” he says. “It’s about the craft, the experimentation, and the collaborations that push the genre forward. It’ll give people a chance to hear different textures and sounds that they might not expect, and it highlights how much the production side of things influences the entire movement.”
