The 10 Best Red Carpet Looks at AMVCA 2024
Film and television stars from across Nollywood and beyond stormed the AMVCA red carpet in grand style. Here are the best looks.
Over the weekend, the grounds, steps and halls of the iconic Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island Lagos were filled with some of the brightest film and television talents from Africa who had arrived to celebrate the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). The AMVCA - presented by Multichoice and first awarded in 2013 - has been known for honoring some of the best film and television talents on the continent.
While the awards ceremony is known to attract some of the biggest names in Nollywood and beyond, the ceremony has also gained immense popularity for the vibrant fashion its attendees bring to the red carpet.
The AMVCA red carpet has grown to be as anticipated as the show itself, so much so that there are best-dressed awards. And this year, not unlike any other, everyone brought their A-game.
Below are our best looks from the red carpet:
Toke Makinwa
Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa stole hearts at the 2024 AMVCA with her structurally interesting look from Nigerian designer Veekee James. Makinwa, who was a red-carpet host, opted for minimal accessories, letting the silver, inverted orb-like silhouettes of her dress do all the talking.
Nana Akua Addo
Ghanaian actor and media personality Nana Akua Addo is known for many things, one of which is her consistently stellar looks on the AMVCA red carpet. This year, Addo went with a 3D-engineered dress from Heidi Lee who has also designed for Beyoncé. Addo’s dress, co-created by Ghana-based designer Yoli Koomson, is stunning for its deceptively simple petal patterns that run throughout the length of the dress. She finished her look off with a slicked-back bun and minimal accessories.
Elozonam
Nigerian media personality and former Big Brother Naija housemate Elozonam brought a fresh, ethereal twist to the classic tuxedo looks typically spotted on male AMVCA attendees. The Weekend To Forget actor wore a white suit-like number with flowing pants constructed under a half-skirt by Jeff Urban. He topped the look off with a milky white rose and white shoes.
Adunni Ade
In a year when many opted for dramatic effects and theatrical statement pieces, actress Adunni Ade took her outfit in an understated, yet glamorous direction. She wore a black gown that featured a white tulle and was complemented by long, bowed gloves from Nigerian designer Ann Cranberry. The effect is a stunning and unforgettable red carpet look.
Chioma Ikoku
For her first look of the night, media personality and star of the famous TheReal Housewives of Lagos show, Chioma Ikoku went with a gold and caramel number from Weizdhurm Franklyn. Ikoku’s dress aims for and successfully achieves a lush, artisanal sensibility. The dress features gold, strung petals on its corset and a deconstructed train on its bottom part. Ikoku kept her accessories minimal for this look.
Chimezie Imo
Not only did Nigerian actor Chimezie Imo pick up the Trailblazer Award at this year’s ceremony following a year of stunning performances in films like Over The Bridge and Breath of Life, he also wore a stunning suit from British Nigerian brand, The Kingsmen. Imo’s suit features deep dark droplets on a blood-red fabric that complemented his frame.
Uche Montana
Nigerian actress Uche Montana tugged at people’s hearts with her stunning crimson and gold number from Veekee James. Montana’s gown featured a long, flowing train complete with feathery trimmings. The dress intelligently manipulates the lace and see-through fabric to build little easter eggs; a heart shape just near the top of the bodice, and another heart shape on the elbow part of the dress. All in all, Montana looked stunning and regal.
Richard Mofe Damijo
As the veteran Nigerian actor, Richard Mofe Damijo received a lifetime award at the 2024 AMVCA, he looked every bit the part. The actor who was also up for Best Actor for his role in the Netflix hit The Black Book, wore a deconstructed Agbada number from Deji and Kola. The outfit, made from a beautiful purple aso-oke material, featured intricate designs running down the length of the outfit. Damijo topped his look off with a long flaps cap and a purple beaded staff.
Simi Drey
Nigerian actress and host Simi Drey wore a black number from Midé, featuring dripping diamonds as its focal point. The chandelier-like diamond detail took what would have been an otherwise simple number into the territory of the understated.
Waje
Singer and songwriter, Waje opted for a black and white number designed by Style Dejavuu. The dress features a plunging neckline, a silver clinch and a flattering, classic train. Waje finished her look off with a diamond necklace and her hair worn straight.
