Alec Lomami's 'Ambience A Gogo' Mixtape Is Essential Listening
Alec Lomami’s latest mix is a tapestry of soundscapes—from heavy trap to fast-paced afrobeats, rumba and plenty of remixes.
Kinshasa rapper and DJ Alec Lomami’s latest mix, Ambiance A Gogo, is a tapestry of soundscapes of contemporary music from the continent.
It features heavy trap to fast-paced afrobeats, rumba and some notable remixes—look out for the rework of Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money.”
In an e-mail to OkayAfrica, Lomami describes Ambiance A Gogo as “a mix of bangers that will make you dance and a foretaste of what you’ll be hearing from my DJ sets.”
Lomami decided to be a DJ because he only heard Anglophone African music in the US, where he's currently based. “So I thought, fuck it, I should transition from AUX cable extraordinaire to your next favorite push button DJ,” he says. “I could try to put all this music, regardless of language genre and region, out there. Ambiance A Gogo was born.”
The mix features music from artists such as Biz Ice from Congo, Jovi from Cameroon, Anbuley from Ghana, FabragasLe Metis Noir from DRC, Maleek Berry from Nigeria and Nasty C from South Africa, among others.
