Afrolicious 'Pleasure Power (DJ Smash Disco Remix)'
Listen to San Francisco collective Afrolicious's 'Pleasure Power' EP featuring the DJ Smash Disco Remix.
San Francisco collective Afrolicious are a beloved name in the Bay Area live music scene. Like Soul Rebels south in NOLA, the ten-plus piece is something like an institution of funk in California's Bay Area. Aside from their weekly Afrolicious parties at the Mission's Elbo Room, they released a debut full length earlier this year, California Dreaming, which includes the dancefloor standout "Pleasure Power." On the latest remix off the LP, disco/house/diasporic-sounds veteran DJ Smash tweaks even more Afro-disco into the original. Afrolicious co-founder Oz McGuire cites Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Baba Ken Okulolo (aka Keni Okulolo), whose influence is felt on "Pleasure Power," as "one of the most under rated bass players of all-time from anywhere in the world." On the remix Smash heightens Okulolo channeling into a meditative bassline. Listen to the "Pleasure Power (DJ Smash Disco Remix)" along with the full EP (which includes the original track) below.
