AfroNation is pulling out all the stops for its fifth-anniversary edition in 2025. Afrobeats superstar Davido will now join his globally renowned colleagues, Tems andBurnaBoy, as headliners of the festival. Slated for July 9 through July 11 in Portugal, this festival promises to be another big moment for the global African music scene.
Also added to the line-up is the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, MaryJ.Blige, who will perform a special sunset set at Afro Nation. Blige will take the stage alongside newly added artists, including French rap icon Booba, Haitian singer Joé Dwèt Filé, and Cape Verdean French artist Ronisia.
The Piano People stage also boasts new additions, including Sierra Leonean DJ/producer The Therapist and several South African producers: Felo Le Tee, LeeMcKrazy and Scotts Maphuma. Adding even more groove to the mix, Franglish, Gabzy, Tiakola and Inoss'B were among the second wave of artists announced for the line-up in November. The Piano People stage also revealed ScorpionKings and DBNGogo, alongside VigroDeep,Mörda,Oskido,KMAT,Shakes&Les and Rosey Gold.
Rounding out the second wave of line-up announcements are innovative Ghanaian star Amaarae, South Africa's amapiano queen UncleWaffles, Cape Verdean singer JuneFreedom, Nigerian breakout artist QingMadi, British Nigerian R&B star Odeal, French rap artist Naza, and South African artists Young Stunna and Nkosazana Daughter.
Davido's return as the headliner for Afro Nation Portugal's fifth edition will occur months after the release of his highly anticipated fifth studio album, 5ive, which is expected in late March. The singer is gearing up for a massive year and will head to Portugal after performing a headline show at London's 80,000-capacity Tottenham Stadium on July 3.Burna Boy needs no introduction to the Afro Nation faithful — he’s been a part of the festival’s journey since it debuted in 2019, and next year marks his triumphant return after a whirlwind year of breaking records and barriers. From lighting up stadiums across the world to becoming a global cultural force, Burna Boy has marked what it means to be an African artist in the international spotlight. But more than the accolades, it’s his magnetic stage presence that will make his performance in 2025 a can’t-miss event.
Meanwhile, Tems will be making her Afro Nation Portugal headliner debut. Tems’ rise from the alté scene to global stardom has been nothing short of meteoric, and her presence signals an exciting moment for women in Afrobeats. Fresh off her critically acclaimed album, Born in the Wild, she’s right there at the forefront of a generation transporting African music further into the mainstream, pushing the boundaries of genre and sound.
Afro Nation itself has grown from a festival to a cultural movement. What began on the beaches of Portimão in 2019 has exploded into a global platform amplifying the voices of African artists. Past headliners have included icons like Wizkid, Davido and Megan Thee Stallion, who are in their own rights bridging the gap between African music and the global stage.
As Afro Nation celebrates its fifth year, The Piano People stage, dedicated to the vibrant amapiano scene, is also set to return in 2025, bringing with them even more dynamic sounds to the beach. Expect more updates on the line-up as the countdown begins.
Tickets go on pre-sale from October 2.
