Lorraine Alvarez Posen is a Visual Development Artist and Illustrator who has contributed conceptual artwork and character design to a large range of projects within the realms of animation, film and commercials. Currently based in Cape Town, Alvarez received her training in both 2D and 3D animation, and her personal style tends to focus on the quality of line, shape and color she uses for her characters and illustrations. Alvarez says she's inspired by great photography, travel and the works of other artists, especially famed old school illustrators like Al Hershfield, Aurelius Battaglia, Alice and Martin Provensen, Mary Blair, Roald Dahl, and Norman Rockwell.

On what she loves most about being an illustrator:

"People describe to me the characters in their stories, they let me into this world they have created, some worlds are small, some amazingly rich and expansive. I feel really privileged to be able to take these descriptions and bring them to life through research, exploratory drawings and then final illustrations. Apart from absolutely loving illustration I'm also an ideas person. I'm always full of ideas and enjoy thinking outside the box. The Visual Development environment lets me exploit these strengths."
