SA's Kalawa Jazmee Records launched a successful bid for takeover of dancefloors in 2013. The now definitive kwaito-house label left us struggling to pick from a lot that includes three of the year's most massive dance videos (one of which only recently began its reign as soundtrack of SA's dawning hot and heavy season). Ultimately we had to go with the fabled vibe that started it all — the video for Mafikizolo's Zulu anthem "Khona," whose brightly lit visuals, hero-on-horseback, and the always graceful Nhlanhla amount to a story-book enactment of the phrase heard round the world.
