OKAYAFRICA BEMBE! With Obsesión, DJ Cortega & DJ Underdog

Cuban hip-hop duo Obsesión will be performing at Tropicalia in Washington, DC this Wednesday as part of our monthly Okayafrica DC party.. Obsesión have remained in Cuba during their career and have been vocals about many sociopolitical issues surrounding 21st century Cuba, including race and gender relations. The sponsoring organizations, Cuba Educational Travel, Havana Culinary and Culture, Center for Democracy in the Americas and Cuba Skate, all favor better relations between the U.S. and Cuba and an end to U.S. restrictions on travel and trade. Tropicalia will host a reception for all of the sponsors of the event, which also include Nomadic Wax and Latin American Youth Center, with information tables set up so the guests can learn and network followed by an Obsesión performance from 9PM-10PM. The Okayafrica DC dance party will follow-hosted by resident DJ Underdog and special guests DJ Cortega & DrewCool  — with a thematic nod towards the true diaspora and connection between Cuba and her roots in African music and culture.
