Pictures of the Year International recently rewarded Alexandre Van Enst with the Award of Excellence for his piece “Elegance Road,” a montage of photos shedding light on the Congolese trend setters calling themselves the "Societe des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes,” or Sapeurs. In these award-winning stills, Van Enst captures the revolutionary fashionistas in a juxtaposition between rustic metal and futuristic garments. Draped in vividly colored kilts while toting canes and black leather handbags, the Sapeurs illuminate the earth-toned roads as they posture in creativity and dignity.
