El patrón ?uestlove just dropped his cover of "Lady" alongside tUnE-yArDs, Angélique Kidjo and Akua Naru for Red Hot + FELA — a new Fela Kuti compilation by the Red Hot Organization and the (RED) campaign. Kidjo and Naru reinterpret Fela's original lyrics criticizing westernized African women who he felt had been corrupted by the feminist movement, "reclaim[ing] 'Lady' for women in the world today, particularly African women, who will have an important role in ending the AIDS epidemic there" as Merril Garbus (tUnE-yArDs) explained. The track's release sparks a ten-day fundraising and awareness campaign called (RED) RUSH TO ZERO. Stream/buy below and learn more about the campaign.
